Over the last 10 years Thomas has been working with the Utopia Community located in the remote central desert regions. Tom has editioned numerous relief block works for the men and silkscreen works for the women. These images hold significant cultural value as they draw from day to day life cycles that demonstrate their continuing link to the land.
The art from the Utopia Community has been recognised internationally. Other than their stencilled images (usually of hands), Australian Aboriginals have no traditional background in printmaking practices. Despite this fact, many Aboriginal Artists have found printmaking a natural extension to painting and drawing.
This year Duckprint and Boolarang Nagamai will work together on projects that will highlight the NSW Aboriginal Communities that until now have been overlooked. Together they will produce Fine Art Limited Editions that will highlight the traditional stories of the coastal people.
The stories yet to be told differ dramatically to the central desert and top end communities because of the overlap of white settlements in early history.
