Mataso is a small island off Port Villa. Most of the villagers live on the mainland and have little income. A project was conceived by Carl Amneus to establish a cultural art program so that over time it would provide an income for the Mataso community. The artworks are a blend of traditional Bebellic art rarely seen outside Vanuatu.
Over a period of two months Mataso artists painted Bebellic images on mylar transparencies. Back at the Port Kembla studio the transparencies were transferred to silkscreens and printed. The prints you see on the website are packaged complete with their own boxes.
